Although, System Preservation has experience with multiple databases, for our own internal system development we prefer using the most reliable, platform independent, as SQL Standard compliant as possible, and a nice bonus when it is open source. PostgreSQL is widely considered to be the most advanced open-source database available today. In addition, from a capability point of view, there are not many databases that can compete with PostgreSQL.

PostgreSQL roots can be traced back to the INGRES database research project at UC Berkeley in the 1970s. After INGRES, a new research project was created, POSTGRES which eventually became PostgreSQL.

PostgreSQL has a exceptionaly strong foundation and its future looks very promising with a strong and growing open source community and increasingly strong interest and investment from large commercial companies such as Red Hat, Fujitsu, and others, in both financing new features and offering commerical support.
